RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted July 1, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1, 2015 A note on the Scalefour Society web site today says that two popular trackwork filing jigs are back in stock:CVF Crossing vee filing jig, for crossing angles 5, 6, 7 and 8, hardened steel£32.00BFJ Blade filing jig, hardened steel£34.00 For 4mm scale Code 75 bullhead rail. Available by mail order to Scalefour Society members and to anyone at Scalefour shows -- the next one is part of Railwells, Wells, 8/9 August: http://www.scalefour.org/scalefoursouthwest/2015/ Whether you actually need expensive filing jigs is moot -- many track builders manage just fine without them, and are not thereby restricted to a small range of crossing angles. RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted July 1, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1, 2015 I have managed without - in the very distant past when I last made some pointwork. But is it quicker using the jigs? Hope I can get to RailWells this year. One of my favourite shows.
Horsetan
I suppose the jigs give you a regularity of shape, which you might not otherwise achieve doing it "freehand".
