Northpoint
I have been thinkiing about the CP ferry ops in British Columbia as a basis for a layout and it seems the H-16-44 was a frequent form of power. A couple of questions re the H-16-44 models: How accurate is the Spectrum body? It seems the closest match as it has the rasied walkways which the Atlas one doesn't. I know there would have to be a couple of detail changes for CP but does anybody know how well dimensioned and proportioned the original model is? How easy might it be to fit to an Atlas mechanism? I undertsand the Spectrum is the old split chassis mech so an Atlas would be superior (and DCC ready of course). Anybody tried this conversion? Any help much appreciated. Talltim
I have no ideas on the loco, but a very good choice of location. The question is, is the Atlas chassis waterproof.?
doctor quinn
Again excellent choice of location - don't forget you'll need a GP7 too. Don't know about Atlas into Bachmann but I have an old Bachmann GP30 that I'm planning to DCC, it lloks doable but definitely not DCC ready. (Or GP9 - though the only pic I can find of one working a barge is in "SIgnatures in Steel") Nick

(Or GP9 - though the only pic I can find of one working a barge is in "SIgnatures in Steel") A quick search didn't turn up any pictures of H16-44s or GP7s with barges, but several of GP9s: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=536926&nseq=0 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=414785&nseq=1 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=404516&nseq=2 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=378904&nseq=4 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=354670&nseq=5 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=343477&nseq=
pH
Some discussion in this topic on how the Bachmann model resembles a CP version (or not) - http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/p/183801/2140554.aspx
pH
A few pictures of one H16-44 handling a Slocan Lake wayfreight: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=180324
Northpoint
Some discussion in this topic on how the Bachmann model resembles a CP version (or not) - http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/p/183801/2140554.aspx Thanks for that. The general concensus seems to be that the Spectrum model isn't too bad. I realise it will need a bit of work so maybe it's worth the investment (I saw on yesterday for about £25). Next question of course is - how to fit DCC!

John_Hughes
A D-4-g might be nice too! Reputedly there's still one sitting in the depths of one of the Finger Lakes - no doubt someone will remind us just where it is.

Reputedly there's still one sitting in the depths of one of the Finger Lakes - no doubt someone will remind us just where it is. I don't know about that one but, in addition to the one in Slocan Lake, there is supposed to be a steam loco in the Columbia River at Robson. It fell off a barge there when Robson was the western end of CPs southern route through BC, and connections were made to the CP mainline by barge through the Arrow Lakes.
