Southernman46 Posted July 14, 2015 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Yes (and this is true - I used to work on the SR in Kent) - they are simply designed as an attempt to prevent litter being blown in to the area containing the point operating rods and causing failures (started in the late 80's ISTR).
