Engine Shed using Wills Craftsman kits

I've been building a 'large' engine shed kit, with boiler house as a commission and is now almost complete.

I've used 4 Wills Craftsman engine shed kits joined to create this building. The thought of cutting the brick work out, especially the roof profile was a little daunting, so I bought a Proxxon saw from Squires Tools. Very pleased both with the saw and the service from Squires. Made easy work of the brick sheets, although had to carefully plan the template locations and cutting order to get two sections from one brick panel. Oh and to get the profile the correct way round as of course are handed and need to make sure the template is the right way round as all marked on the rear of the sheet using a fine pencil.

I also used the saw to cut the side panels to size and the vertical butresses at the joints and between the windows. The roof sections being cut using a scalpel and used 40 thou backing strips to join together. Rather than using the supplied vents, which need to be made up from 4 strips, I used some Evergreen rectangular hollow section with 20 thou cap cut to suit.

A workshop was made for one side, again using the brick sheets and Wills corrugated sheets for the roof. A boiler house was also added with a Ratio chimney and vents.

Which Proxon saw did you buy, and which blade did you use for cutting the plastic?

Hi Gordon

Its the KS230 and used the blade that came with the saw. Providing you keep the feed rate slow, cuts fine, although a small burr to clean off. I think that the finer blade would be better.

Just been building one as a low relief industrial building 4 sheets in length. I had no problems cutting the sheets with a Stanley knife but I did find it useful to make a cutting jig/template to help cut the 12/16mm wide brick piers. This helped enormously with speed and accuracy.
