DIFFLOCK
I thought I'd settled on some modern image locos and stock, but then I go and spot this rather beefy looking steam engine in Porter-Wynn last weekend, oh well! What a beautiful runner she is too! Smooth, with an almost DCC-like crawl. All I did was disassemble, clean and oil - then have to put one of the tender axles back in the right way after wondering why I was getting a short on the track! D'OH! The model has both tender and loco power pickups; no doubt typical of US HO models, but I was quite chuffed (groan!) to see that it would be extremely difficult to stall this loco on a set of points. Both front lights work too. Pictures:- Was the loco worth £45? I thought so, despite someone messing around with the front coupler area. Just need to get some C.B & Q stock now, pre-1955 (which was when the last C.B. & Q. B-1a was scrapped according to http://www.steamlocomotive.com/mountain/cbq.shtml ) don't know when 7015 ended its life however. Incidentally does Mehano = IHC and vice versa? Reason I ask is there was a small sticker of a steam loco on a corner of the box which it turns out, was covering up the IHC logo. The loco itself is marked Mehano, as are the ends of the box. Diff. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted February 24, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2010 Incidentally does Mehano = IHC and vice versa? Reason I ask is there was a small sticker of a steam loco on a corner of the box which it turns out, was covering up the IHC logo. The loco itself is marked Mehano, as are the ends of the box. Mehano is the manufacturer in the former Yugoslavia, while IHC, which used to be AHM, is the US importer. Actually, IHC has probably just gone belly-up - their website went off-line a few months ago. Pity, because they offered "good enough" stuff at low prices, enabling modellers with more ambition than funds to get started and have some fun. I have an IHC/Mehano 2-10-2, and while the detailing is a bit limited, it does as your Mountain does - crawls along nicely, in contrast to other 2-10-2s costing rather more. tebee
To me, that looks very much like the old Pemco Mountain which was tender drive. The give away for this is that the Oil/Coal bunker on the tender is square all the way to the bottom to hide the motor bogie, whereas it should be cut away below the double row of rivets. If it the same loco that Mahano have reissued it had a very nice well detailed body though the Pemco version was made of a very soft plastic and the detail parts broke off easily. I believe the current Mehano are quite good runners so looks like you get a bargain there ! Mahano was the manufacture , IHC was the US importer, they sold several manufacturers products as there own brand. Tom
tebee
I've had a quick search on the web and it is the same loco retooled. Here's some of the links I found with useful info. http://railroad.union.rpi.edu/article.php?article=4574 http://reviews.ebay.com/IHC-RSO-AHM-and-Mehano-Steam-Locomotives-in-HO-scale_W0QQugidZ10000000006974508 http://www.steamlocomotive.com/model/HO-steam.php
DIFFLOCK
You learn something new every day - thanks guys! B) Indeed, my Mountain has a can motor situated in the firebox as it were, with a flywheel and a driveshaft with a worm gear to the main driver. Diff.
