Cheers guys!

James - the embankment covering was first a coating of plaster over papier mache, and then a coat of Dulux 'Cookie Dough' emulsion on top of that. After that had dried, I applied a very dark brown wash to bring out the contours, and then finally the brown scatter material which in this case is Javis Scatter No. 32 (Dark brown). Then the green stuff goes on top of that - glad you think it's looking ok! :)

Mike - the cabinets are the Wills Lineside kits (sets 1 and 2). They're quite cheap and nice and easy to put together!

Just found this thread. Superb modelling!

The quality of the work done on the platforms is of particular note, very well observed.

Howdy peeps! Been concentrating a bit more on the tunnel end, it's going fairly well so thought I'd post a couple of pics. Comments, questions and feedback most welcome as always :)

General view looking southbound. The hill above the tunnel is missing and also still no 3rd rail here (on the to do list)

Side view from the northbound side. The wooden fence is styrene strip painted with acrylic. There will be tall trees planted on this embankment so a lot of this will be hidden towards the back.

Networker approaching the tunnel enroute to Tunbridge Wells. How it's moving anywhere without the 3rd rail is a mystery.

Driver's eye view looking northbound and approaching the tunnel mouth - the blue is the colour of the wall, which will be hidden by the trees that are still to be planted!

I spent a 8 hours a day for seven days flagging the down signal just outside the tunnel in the mid 90's and that is almost exactly how I recall it. You have the sleeper fencing too a T, well done.

Only just stumbled across this. Have to say some of the best senic work I've seen. Very impressive with the weathering. I can only hope when I get round to doing my own layouts senic work that it if

it comes out half as good I would be proud.

Lovely stuff .

Many thanks for sharing it.

The real life pictures certainly show what you are achieving with your modelling is spot on.

Are the uprights for the wooden fencing made out of rail? Apologies if this has already been noted.

Regards,

James

I can't remember which pics I have posted before, see below where you are modelling now.

Your modelling is very life like.

Not had a chance to resize the later pics I took.

Cheers.

This picture gives a good idea of where the old up siding south used to be before they were removed.

Hi folks - thanks loads for all the positive feedback on the foliage etc. Having jumped in headfirst I'm quite encouraged by the results so far, but looking at it with fresh eyes today I couldn't help noticing that it was missing the taller weeds and plants, things like nettles, brambles and ferns. I've come up against a bit of a mental block here and can't seem to find any decent products for replicating these - wondered if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction? There seem to be a lot of allotment type plants, but not many weeds! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

These pics I illustrate the sort of effect I'm aiming for:

That's interesting, I was trying to get my head around how the track layout has changed in this area - the up and down mains seem to be placed quite far apart as well.

Up util the late 80's or early 90's (i cant remember when) platform 2 was the main up line and platform 1 was the termination platform. You was also able to reach the branch line from platform 2 but was only really ever used for the odd freight train, the 1623 school train and for diversions. It was decided that swapping platofrms would allow faster non stopping services.

The up sidings south was a double track sidings that was also removed in the platorm alterations. In my time at Sevenoaks, the up siding was only ever used to hold condemmed stock. And i have a nagging feeling it was also non electrified like the up sidings north.

Thanks Blue - reading what you said about the up south sidings, I remembered my Video 125 DVD which has a driver's eye view of a Hastings to Charing Cross train. It was filmed in 1988, and you can see some disused Hastings DMUs parked in these sidings. I managed to get a few screenshots from the Sevenoaks portion of the DVD, they're not terribly good quality but I thought they were quite interesting in showing the track layout and appearance of the station at the time!

Oooh my word......the man walking along the track (the third from last photo) looks like a signalman called Tom Hiller who really had a bad habit of walking along the track to the signalbox for his shifts. Edited by Blue

Hi all, hope everyone's had a great weekend!

This weekend I moved focus back to the station end of the layout for a change, and have been working on an area just adjacent to the up platform where there is a large block of portacabins (someone did say what they were for but I've forgotten!). From the photos there appears to be some sort of hard standing there, so I've put that in ready for the cabin block to be mounted. I also had a bit of fun with trying to add weeds and grass at the bottom of the security fencing. Finally I've started putting a back scene in place before I put any more trees or scenic materials on. Although it's only a very small area of progress I was quite pleased with how it's looking generally at this end. Staying with the upside, the intention is to move along to surfacing the carpark next, security fencing and undergrowth and weeds on the trackside of the fencing.

Anyway just the two pics of progress this weekend, taken from roughly where the portacabin block will be sitting:

The hard standing is in fact the far end of what was Car Park number 1 ( which was a season ticket only car park and had a 20+ year waiting list ) The portacabins were due to the resignalling, telecoms I believe but were hardly ever used.

Thanks Blue, yeh it seems to be gated off from the carpark down that end.  20+ year waiting list for a season ticket? There's no point being on it if you're a commuter surely, you'd have retired by the time you get a space! :D

Believe it or not, it was a dead mans shoes type thing. Parking season tickets were handed down father to son etc. We were also shown evidence that some were part of house sales agreements and several left in wills!!!!
