RMweb Gold SHMD Posted January 31, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 31, 2016 Now for some maths... For the 5" gauge track I (randomly) sourced 97.5Ib/yd bullhead rail and matching chairs. This turns out to be :- GWR 1905 Section 00! Searching for fishplate dimensions I came across this wonderful resource:- http://www.oldpway.info/drawings/Ross_1905_drawings.html "oldpway" takes all the credit for this. (These drawings are free to copy and use within the terms and conditions of Open Government Licence version 3.0.) Some calculations:- The maths is simple but my convoluted way of working things out makes it look difficult! From 4'8.5" down to 5" works out at 11.3:1 scale. The holes, at the end of the bullhead rail, are 5.3 and 16.54 millimetres from the end of the rail. The hole diameters are 2.95mm with a "nick" or "Vee" that points to each other. I have placed two small screws, (pointing straight up), in the rough positions that my calculations indicate where the two 3mm holes should be drilled... ....it looks about right! Kev. (Next time I'll try and source some proper LMR stuff!)
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted April 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2017 WOW, more than a year off! I'd better crack on then... (I rediscovered this project after attempting to clear/clean my work bench.) Yesterday I added some more basic carpentry to the project by adding the steps. ..now to go and make the baseboard and think about where to put a relay cabinet. Kev. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted April 3, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2017 Welcome back! All the electronics and engineering are going way over my head, but I remain fascinated and look forward to the conclusion. Mike.
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted April 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2017 Today's meanderings. Nothing spectacular. Just rearranging the furniture to see how things look... Here's a view of the Test-Plank, my work bench and the Ground-Frame. (Reminds me of a 1990s preserved railway siding!) Kev.
