Chester - Holyhead which sleepers in 70's

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking to model a fictional location on the main line between Chester and Holyhead during the mid to late 1970's.

From memory, I think that the sleepers at Flint were wooden at this time (around 1975/6).

I have tried searching the photos on line but all I can tell is pre 60's wooden, late 80's seems to be concrete, (OK not much of a surprise), and I guess the work would have taken some time.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Chris.

When I started on the railway on the North Wales coast in 1978 it was almost completely timber. Concrete has been used for relaying a bit at a time since, although the past 10 years has been steel for new track.  However the North Wales line still has more timber than the others put together. It's not at the top of the list for investment being a lightly used main line.

Thanks all for the great response.

PatB - same problem here, looks like we were right !!!

Merfyn - thanks, as I'm aiming at 75 ish that's confirmed what I remembered.

Stovepipe - great pic, I'd forgotten about the castle works (courtaulds) building.

Thanks to all who posted, really appreciated.
