paulco
Hello All, Sixty years old and pondering the idea of a model railway, we had a flirtation with n gauge about five years ago, then my son got married, left home and n gauge was abandoned. I am hoping to look into setting up an 8 by 4 board in 00 gauge modelling GWR in the 60s, - just before its demise eh. All the best Paul

paulco
Hello All, Thanks for your welcome. Thanks also to Dutch Master re comments on 4x8 board being to small for 00, this may well be correct but I did find n gauge to be a little too fiddley, may be able to extend the 4x8 with a 2 to 3 foot spur extension. brianusa
Careful, most layouts have a habit of expanding over time so be sure there is enough room. Double main, a passing loop or a siding here and there. Almost inevitable! Brian.

Double main, a passing loop or a siding here and there. Almost inevitable! Brian. My kids layout started as an 8 by 4 board. Then they wanted an inverted figure of eight so I chopped it into 3 pieces (2 5' by 2' and 2 4' by 18") then screwed back together to make an 8 by 5 with a well in the centre. It worked and they got their double circuit of double track. Jamie
