Folkestone-Dover sea wall wash-out

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, another Volunteer day, with   Whitecliffs Country Partnership

this time Western Heights, collect and burn.

We were up here,a week ago, repairing fences, then cutting  Broom, high on the hillside.

Today more fencing, but I opted to collect the Broom,we cut last week. and burn it in a slit trench.

If this is the Up VSOE for Folkestone West, then London Victoria. The train in the photo would be empty; the passengers having taken coaches from Calais Ville to FKW via the Channel Tunnel. Views of the French train can be found on here:- http://lapassiondutrain.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/VSOE

If this isn't the VSOE proper, then it'll be a 'Dining Special', though those tend to run earlier in the week.

You didn't notice a pair of binoculars down there, did you? Mine went over the edge in 1993.

In the first photo, you will see a series of upright, dark-coloured, objects, zig-zagging up the slope. These are the handrails for a set of steps which provided access to the colliery and cottages at Shakespeare Cliff, and are made from lengths of rail from the 19th century tunnel excavations. I'm not sure if they are still accessible or not.
