Mrkirtley800
I have a hand held Pentroller, which seems to have developed a fault at the lower end of the rheostat. When starting a loco, the knob has to be turned a little way, when the engine starts suddenly and speeds away. Looks like the speed control has a fault at the lower end. Does anyone know of a repair facility for these controllers. Derek
Gordon H
You could have a go yourself. There was a Blog on here that investigated the innards of the Pentroller a few months ago: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1672/entry-16869-snitzl-works-snitzl-investigates-pentroller/ Looks like it uses a standard 10k linear pot for the speed control. cliff park
If you can, I would remove the pot and take it in to somewhere like Maplins, partly because the physical fit of tags and available space look to be the biggest problems. The shaft will have to be shortened. Make sure you hold the shaft in the vice to saw it, not the body of the pot. (may sound obvious, but I've seen everything)
RMweb Premium Kylestrome Posted January 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 15, 2016 Before doing anything drastic, just try spraying a little contact cleaner into the pot. It is quite common for Pentrollers to get dirty contacts in there and this is a common remedy.

Gordon H
So what did you actually do to fix it after all?
Mrkirtley800
It wasn't me. A friend in our club took it and replaced the pot. It now works superbly. Derek
