RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 24, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2016 ISBN 978-1-84494-101-8 Publisher : Bridge Books = www.bridgebooks.co.uk Cover price : £18.99 Pages : 159 Sections (summarised) Waverton - Chester East Chester General Birkenhead line - Mollington North Wales and Wrexham - Balderton CLC - Chester's other station. Not sure why it wasn't titled Chesters' Railways - perhaps the apostrophe put them off. A book which promises a lot but is a curates egg, sadly. Bad points Some of the photo reproduction is lamentable - and even that's being kind - not sure if it's overprocessing at the development stage which hasn't translated well in final printing or just printing quality. Errors in the captions - once again I can only go on my own field of interest - signalling and operation. There is little excuse for some of the errors, just poor proof reading - Chester No.6 box was famous for being an overhead cabin and yet the book mistakenly labels Chester No.2 as No.6. A non-sginalling exampe - describing a road overbridge as a footbridge, the bridge is still extant today and it's a simple process to check. Good points Some great photos of a very interesting area. My view. Overall some good photos but a steep price for some very poor reproduction and easily avoidable mistakes. I bought my copy from the T.R so did my bit to swell their coffers. Edited to add sections and summary.
