This year's Summer Steam Gala at the Foxfield railway will be held over the weekend of 16th and 17th July and will be themed around the Lancashire coalfield's Walkden area.

It will feature the usual demonstration coal trains on the 1 in 19 of Foxfield Bank and passenger services between Blythe Bridge Caverswall Road and Dilhorne Park stations, alternating between the standard service set and the restored 1880s North Staffordshire Railway heritage train.

Locos in action from the home fleet will include: 0-6-0ST Whiston, 0-4-0ST Bagnall 2842, 0-4-0ST Beyer Peacock 1827, 0-4-0 crane tank Dubs.

Visiting loco subject to confirmation: 0-6-0ST Norman (currently running as N.C.B. 35), courtesy of the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway.

The One Legged Shunter will be open all weekend serving a selection of real ales and the buffet will be open all weekend offering hot and cold food and drinks. Limited camping available.

Could be tempted to go. Its a long way from home, so will need to find somewhere to stay in my campervan. The Foxfield website mentions limited camping available, does anyone know more?

We have a field that serves as overflow car parking which is available for camping. There is also a fresh water tap and toilets available. The only down side is you will be able to join us all in the station bar in the evenings!

Big news is that the Foxfield Railway Society have been granted the honour of receiving New L class 0-6-2T North Stafford No.2 into our Staffordshire Locomotives collection. The loco will be arriving at the end of April and, if clearance trials are successful, it is hoped to have No.2 on display at Foxfield Colliery over the July gala for some Walkden themed cameos with the austerities.

The Foxfield Raiway is honoured to have been selected by the National Railway Museum as the recipients for this unique locomotive with genuine links to both North Staffordhire and our industrial heritage.

North Staffordshire Railway No.2 being loaded at Shildon today ready for her return to her native North Staffordshire at the Foxfield Railway. During the journey she will pass outside Stoke-on-Trent railway station in an homage to her old stamping grounds and near to her place of birth.

Its good to see NSR no. 2 going back to North Staffs and hopefully the Foxfield will have more luck with displaying and even restoring the loco than happened at Cheddleton NSR a good few years ago. I recall cabbing the loco at Chatterley Whitfield about 30 years ago, parked under colliery screens!

A full assessment of the locomotive is to be undertaken with a view to a return to steam, subject to successful fund raising.

Latest update on preparations for the gala is that the Beyer Peacock will be unavailable as some issues were found with the firebox during a recent inspection and she requires remedial repairs before returning to traffic.

However the railway is currently negotiating a second visiting locomotive, which will be confirmed shortly.

The second visiting locomotive is now confirmed as Avonside 0-6-0ST 'Cranford' recently returned to steam at Appleby Frodingham. This is a welcome return as the loco spent many years residing at Foxfield, first as an almost derelict hulk followed by the start of its restoration by Dave Smith who had almost completed the bottom end overhaul, built a new cab and bunker and started on the boiler before he decided to sell the loco on. It then left Foxfield to go to Appleby Frodingham for the restoration to be completed.

Hoping im off work that weekend.

The highlight will be the Aspinall, the Mersey docks and harbour board had 2 very similar if not the same locos no 3 and 4. Of which hoping to build a model of in the future.

We haven't got an Aspinall at Foxfield this year....

Might have need of some Aspirin though after Saturday evening in the bar....

Here's the timetable for this coming weekend.

Summer Gala Guide 2016.pdf

Cranford arrived safely yesterday and will have its FTR and line clearance run on Friday, 35 just requires an FTR as we already operate austerity tanks.

The bar has had all the beer delivered ready and it is in the cellar settling.

The Miniature railway at Caverswall Road will also be in operation during the weekend.
