drduncan
Dear all, Does anyone have any photo references for the GWR W2 outside framed cattle wagon? I'm looking for pictures dated between the 1890s and 1914? I have checked the following sources: GWR journal index Atkins et al, GWR Goods Wagons (OPC, 1998) Russell, A pictorial record of great western wagons (OPC, 1971) Russell, Great western wagons appendix (OPC, 1974) Any references gladly received. Ian Smith
Duncan, When producing the artwork for a 3D model of a W2 (in 2mm scale), I struggled to find really good photos of the "Medium" (W2) sized wagon apart from the one in Atkins. I did find images of the "Large" version at Bath (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/52902-bath-goods-shed/), and a "Small" version can be found in the regularly reproduced image of Yealmpton. Both are useful to give an idea of what the lettering might have been like on the end of a W2 in the period you are interested in. There are other images of cattle trains that have what look like Medium sized wagons, I can't immediately direct you to those photos, I will have a bit of a look to see if I can locate them again. There are some OF wagons in the photo of a cattle train at Brent (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/72347-inglebourne/page-2) entry no.41. Hope this helps.
