Dr Gerbil-Fritters
A bit of evening action from both railroads, keeping me entertained while I am working away from home 2 CSX Bright Future units in the lead on the third train... Dr Gerbil-Fritters
3 CSX units on an ethanol train. All are in the older scheme, not Bright Future. Two Tier 4 ET44C4s leading a warbonnet C44-9CW and an NS unit Fifteen minutes of yinging off camera. and then this appeared.... SD70M #4822 Not quite sure what's going on, but after the solo SD70M there were a couple of guys on HiVis mooching about. Then this empty coal train stopped and they got on board the lead unit. As it slowly pulled away, a west bound stack over took it. and having stopped and started once more, the coal MTs get overtaken by another westbound Edited November 17, 2016 by Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
It's so busy this evening! A westbound manifest chugs past and an eastbound appears moments later = the 4th unit is a GP15 and the 5th unit is a GP38-2
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
and still they keep rolling - the third unit is an NS SD40-2
CraigZ
I discovered that there's about a 20-30 second lag between reality and when reality appeared on my cell phone...that allowed me to do this yesterday morning and to wave hello to RM Webbers... I could walk out, wave, walk back and wait for it to stream on my phone and grab the screenshot. Edited November 18, 2016 by CraigZ

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Just seen an nteresting short train. Propelling!! One for the short train fanatics If it was an orange and green GP38-2, heading from left to right round the curve alongside the crossing it will be the BNSF local that serves a couple of industries adjacent to the giant UP Global III intermodal terminal. Dr Gerbil-Fritters
It's been quite quiet so far, although just now I did catch a very lengthy eastbound stack headed by a shiny ET44AH, #2717 and two SD70Ms. It sounded very nice as it powered up after passing over the slow order on the crossing. Interestingly, if you Google UP2717 you will get an SD40M-2 and an NRE 3GS21B.... 2/3rds of the way back was the DPU. This is a standard UP set up to distribute braking and drawbar forces. Looks as bleak in Rochelle as it is here today, brrrrr Edited November 18, 2016 by Dr Gerbil-Fritters
RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted November 22, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2016 Busy day at Rochelle, two UP trains plus track workers.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
I don't think I've seen two BNSF passing before and the track workers are still hard at it, that crossing needs almost constant tinkering

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
There's something very pleasing about an ethanol train.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
A dramatic eastbound rolling through the fog, followed by a westbound. It's an indistinct photo, but the second unit is UP1989, the Rio Grande unit.
Ross34
I've been watching for a few nights - strange how addictive it is. A couple of things stand out - the train lengths, jeez they're long. And the rocking the freight cars do over the crossing - that cant be acceptable surely? Oh, and the viewing park doesn't seem overly popular at the minute - the poor weather I suppose. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted November 24, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2016 I've been watching for a few nights - strange how addictive it is. A couple of things stand out - the train lengths, jeez they're long. And the rocking the freight cars do over the crossing - that cant be acceptable surely? Oh, and the viewing park doesn't seem overly popular at the minute - the poor weather I suppose. Most train watchers tend to sit in the covered area under the webcam. There are perimeter seats with power points together with seating along the benches in the middle. Only a few venture out in front of the webcam. Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Freezing fog at the crossings this morning, and that poor old dog is bloody barking again. I've not seen this before - a very lengthy box car train pulls past the camera, stops and then with three blasts on the horn, backs up. Presumably going into Global III.
RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted November 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2016 Just been watching that train back up. As you say not something I had seen before either.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
An enormous coal train, two on the head end and a single DPU at the rear. Of note is that all the hoppers were CSX and they were loaded high. Most coal trains I've seen here the loads are not visible inside the hoppers. So, either smaller hoppers or a less dense load?
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
The box car train has just departed eastwards from Global III... I'd love to know what the consist was - I guesstimate somewhere in excess of 200 cars. The front half was all box cars, the latter half solid reefers including the 4 cars out of the whole train that haven't been ruined by taggers. I hate tagging.
RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted November 28, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2016 After seeing a train stop and then reverse for the first time yesterday I then get only my second train going around the curve avoiding the diamonds today.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
There was a flurry of activity between 3 and 4am (local) but only a couple of trains since then, one eastbound stack and a westbound coal MT. The local is out and about with a very trim GP28M, #1500 tripping cars round the spur to the Del Monte plant. I've previously thought this was a GP38, but it's much more interesting that that! It was originally built as a GP9 in April 1957, as Great Nothern Railroad #690, becoming Burlington Northern #1763 in 1970. Retired from service in 1991, it was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen as a GP28M in April 1992. Although that makes it somewhat like the Ship of Theseus, nonetheless it's great to see a '59 year old' locomotive in daily class 1 service. Even in its GP28M version, it's still 25 years old... Here it is a few minutes later having dropped the center beam and picked up a cryotrans reefer and some box cars Edited November 28, 2016 by Dr Gerbil-Fritters

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Nice shot Craig. BTW, what was the monster box car train that we saw yesterday backing into Global III and then leaving a bit later? In the meantime, so folk can see what the neighbourhood looks like....
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
It's turned into a filthy wet day in Rochelle, as a hot and fast intermodal rackets across the crossing. Meanwhile, clear blue skies here and the temperature has dropped like a stone. And my working day is almost done.
