Drewry class 04, BR blue, D22XX - and consists....

Happy Friday everyone :-)

Ok, so, I have a feeling the answer to this will be on par with the length of string, but...

Having recently acquired a BR blue D numbered class 04, the thing needs work so some kind of inglenook / shunting plank seems the fun thing to do...

The question being, in that colour/era what kind of wagonry would have been the mainstay of its shunting duties?

Or is it basically a Rule 1, depending on the yard/location/day of the week, that it can get away with most kind of stock?

Cheers All :-)

Dan, again!

There are a couple of pictures here

http://www.railblue.com/pages/Class%2004/D2295_SL_141269.htm

The Salisbury one was used to shunt parcels vans, there used to be one at Woking for the same, and I think one at Redbridge which was used to shunt around the foundry, which cast rail-chairs and similar gubbins, and the sleeper-creosoting place, so probably CCE wagons, taking components to Pre-Assembly Depots.

But, these were rare beasts by the time "the blue period" arrived, so you might have to look at pictures of 03 and be inspired by what they are doing.

PS: just found another, great long, thread exploring the same question http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/66882-class-04-shunters-in-action-br-blue/

Over fifty class 04s were sold into industrial use after withdrawal by BR, although some were broken for spares

others ended up working for the NCB or at Coal Concentration Depots.

If any of these retained their BR livery and number then they would look at home in a grotty little yard

shunting a selection of 16t or 21t minerals or 21t hoppers,

cheers
