DodgyDave
Hi, Apologies for those who know the question has been answered before, but I recently obtained a second hand loco, which starts up fine at slow speeds, but when it gets going starts to jerk, losing and then regaining drive between once and twice a second. This happens in both directions on a straight level track which no other loco does. It is a tender drive Hornby R842 Class 5 4-6-0. Any suggestions gratefully received. RMweb Premium Chimer Posted June 30, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2016 My guess is that the connection from the pickups on the loco wheels to the tender is making and breaking at the loco-tender coupling, if it's a slightly loose fit, with some dirt on one side or the other? DCB
Almost certainly the loco tender connection. Sometimes the flexible wire snaps, sometimes it is the brass contact. The cure is easy, a Mainline / Bachmann Tender and a Loco drive loco chassis. Fitting an X04 motor and gears to the push along chassis keeping the powered tender also works well and pulls decent length trains.
