philsandy
Have just fitted a new Loksound V4 micro decoder to a loco, after running it in DC mode. When I placed it on the main track the sound immediately came on, which puzzled me. I set the NCE Powercab to address 3, the default setting, the sound continued but the loco would not move. I placed it on the program track. When the decoder is read there is no audible "clicking" that you usually here as the Powercab reads the decoder, and the manufacturer code and the decoder version codes displayed are different each time I do this. A couple of times the Powercab has displayed "Short circuit detected" Now there is no sound effect, but there is a faint ticking/humming constantly coming from the decoder. Can anyone offer any advice, or is this a faulty decoder?
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted August 21, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2016 Hi Sorry not to be able to be more positive but I have had this on a V4 - random manufacturer/address - the chip was duff Having said that I have recently returned chips to ESU as per their web site and found them most helpful Phil
Nick G
The decoder is seated correctly I assume, no bent pins?
philsandy
Thanks for your replies. Nick, yes, the pins are all straight. Phil, I suspected the decoder was faulty, I will return it. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.
