bossy
Just after some advice as I dont want to fry my ESU V4 decoder in getting a class 73 to run correctly...or without stopping because the track is 0.00001mm out of level. Currently have a home made stay alive capacitor fitted 25v 2000UF but the loco sound and wheels stop immediately. I plan to add another 24v 1000UF in but not sure if it should be in series or parallel web appears to say both! Advice much appreciated Thanks
smokebox
Parallel will increase the overall capacitance. Series connection increases the working voltage but will reduce the overall capacitance. Edited to add further info.
Nigelcliffe
And even 4700uF is fairly small, though should be starting to see an effect. I have put as much as 160,000uF into 4mm scale locos (using super-caps, not the cheap and somewhat bulky electrolytics).
bossy
thanks for the advice so parallel is the way to go. I thought my current install was not working but it appears as suggested above not enough.
Phil S
parallel but only if they are of sufficient voltage rating !!! Otherwise you have to use several in series to get the voltage rating - this is common with the super-cap solution. A combination of the 2 is what you wil probably find in the larger versions . bossy
just an update purchased a TCS TA1 capacitor ok £25 quid but it works and loco runs great now. With sound thinking that the single capacitors are not really enough.
norman
Hi Bossy I assume you mean a TCS KA1 which is a super capacity pack KA2 is also available and excellent value regards Norman
