RMweb Premium 7013 Posted March 15, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2010 I have recently finished chipping a split chassis 43XX. It runs OK but is a bit noisy and is a bit jittery when it starts off. I have basic decoder cannot remember if I put a Hornby or Bachmann decoder in ( I will check) Could anyone recommend any CV settings I could alter to improve low speed running and start off,and hopefully reduce the noise? When running DC the loco was very quiet
RMweb Gold Donw Posted March 17, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2010 Perhaps you need a better decoder to suit the motor the 'silent running'decoder were introduced to improve the performance. CVs could change the start voltage or the number of steps but I can't see that would help except by avoiding the problem area. Donw
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted March 17, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2010 My decoders of choice for split chassis locos: IF you have room - Lenz Standard Plus, super smooth, just runs out of the box if you don't have room - TCS-M1, again just runs out of the box, not quite as good as the Lenz, but you have the option of turning off back EMF and using the Dither by function button control if you are double heading for example. You need better than a basic decoder for these older chassis that have 3 pole motors.
RMweb Premium 7013 Posted March 17, 2010 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 17, 2010 Thanks chaps I have used TCS before with good results so it looks like a rewiring job!
