ianp
Try as I might, I can't find anywhere, even on the internet, that sells model mechanical French signals - those things in yellow, red or violet. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy some in HO scale?
Fat Controller
Try as I might, I can't find anywhere, even on the internet, that sells model mechanical French signals - those things in yellow, red or violet. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy some in HO scale? I got a kit from someone like MKD about 20 years ago; not sure if it's still available. I did find a few bits on the net:- http://www.train-modelisme.com/mag.php?goto=bout.php&cat=Kits%20signaux&famille=Signalisation seems to have a range of brass kits. http://www.univers-train.com/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=2828378 seems to show the MKD kit I bought, but is currently out of stock. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy some in HO scale? Took about 3 minutes to find this on the 'net (scroll down) - but they are not cheap!!!! http://www.train-modelisme.com/mag.php?goto=bout.php&cat=Ferroviaire%20pour%20le%20HO&famille=Signalisation Sorry - duplicated Brian's post
RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted December 13, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2016 I agree the MKD ones are the one to seek out. I used then on my Les Dents layout in the late 80s and they were easy to make operational with a bit of push/pull wire. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/MKD-588-HO-Signaux-mecaniques-et-accessoires-de-voies-/282288014865?hash=item41b9ad4611:g:mKcAAOSwA3dYTXfw

My standing Ebay search had failed to pick it up. As for buying signals elsewhere, the problem is that they are out of stock everywhere, or grotesquely expensive (£50 for a signal? ***** to that). Horsetan
Disque Rouge range
ianp
Disque Rouge range Have you seen the prices? Nearly 60 euros each for the mechanical ones, plus expensive French P&P. As I said, ***** to that.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted December 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2016 €60 for the MKD kit is pretty steep even if it does make up into several signals. Unless tooling has been damaged, it seems strange that Hornby International have not put these out.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted December 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2016 This is a product with enough potential that I could get it manufactured (white metal + etched brass). Would be a bit dearer than the old price for MKD kit but a lot less than they are selling for now.

If that's the case, why not try making your own? There must be some dimensions available out there....
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted December 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2016 I'm wondering if there might be anything on Shapeways by a French modeller. Will have a look although I find their website a bit of a challenge. Edit: Well not found any. But then neither did I find the Belgian and Dutch ones that I know exist. RMweb Premium Northroader Posted December 20, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2016 You should find this thread helpful:http://forum.e-train.fr/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=66575&start=
Pacific231G
If you search for MKD 588 Signaux Mecaniques et accessoires de voie you may find a French retailer that still has them. The going price seems to be about €27- €30 (I've got a couple of these but I'm keeping them!) Alternatively, come to the SNCF Society "Winter Rendezvous" at Lenham next month (Sunday, 22 January Lenham Community Centre, Lenham, Kent ME17 2QT) There may well be some on the second hand stand but they are plastic kits with the coloured targets printed on gloss paper to be glued onto the relevant plate so nothing like an etched brass kit. If you need a drawing of the SNCF "unified" signal post and mechanism to work from I can dig one out fairly easily so just PM but the thread on Forums LR Presse (pretty much the French equivalent to RMWeb) given by Northroader probably includes all the information you'll need to build your own to whatever level of detail you're happy with. I do also have a copy of the French rulebook that includes the design of all the signal targets.
RMweb Gold Patrick Posted December 30, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2016 If you fancy having a go at building signals from etched brass kits, Rotomagus have a comprehensive range of French semaphores: http://www.rotomagus.com/html/autres/page%20%20recapitulative%20des%20signaux.htm
