GoingUnderground
Is the Mobile control 2 the latest ECoS hand held controller or is there something newer out or planned? ESU announce their new items at the Nurnberg Toy Fair every year. The Fair has just closed and the only significant new announcement was that the ECoS has been given an uprated PSU and some internal changes to cope with the increased power. Here is a link to the 2017 New Item catalogue, sorry German language version only as ESU haven't yet released an English language version. http://www.esu.eu/fileadmin/download/brochures/2017/52953_Neuheitenkatalog_2017_DE_1.Auflage_eBook.pdf Given that the interval between items being announced at the Fair and going on sale can be up to 24 months, you're probably reasonably safe in buying an MC2. The MC2 gets all its functionality from the MC2 app, and ESU do, from time to time issue updates to the app. So even if there is new functionality on the way, you should be able to update the app to get it when the time comes. GoingUnderground
Or get an Iphone and use Touchcab via a wireless router.... Phil iPhone - expensive! If you already have an Android phone or tablet, you could use an android app, I think there's one called ECoS Controller which is equivalent to TouchCab, there may be others. Or install a VNC client such as RealVNC Viewer which has a free version for Android which will let you control your ECoS remotely from the Android phone or tablet. If you have a Windows phone or tablet, then there are free versions of RealVNC Viewer for them also that gives you the same remote control. Here's a link to Real VNC's VNC Viewer https://www.realvnc.com/download/viewer/ A VNC Client will not give you additional throttles, only remote control of the ECoS, but whatever you do on the phone or tablet will be shown on the ECoS, and vice versa. You will need to have a Wi-Fi router to use them with ECoS.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted February 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2017 Not sure if ECoS Controller will work via a router - I think it looks for an internal wireless card, will prove that this weekend As for expensive Iphones - agree! Get hold of a second hand older outdated model if this is all you want it for Phil
two tone green
The ESU Mobile Control 2 works either by conecting to your home wifi router or the supplied stand alone router in the box with the controller. No internal card at all. Thats the old old version no longer available.

Get hold of a second hand older outdated model if this is all you want it for Phil You've confused the Android app "ECoS Controller", https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ECoS.train with the first incarnation of radio control for ECoS "ECoSControl Radio", http://www.esu.eu/en/products/former-products/ecoscontrol-radio/ which used the same bodyshell as the Dynamis. ECoSControl Radio needed a receiver card which went into the ECoSlot in the bottom of the ECoS. Anything used with a smartphone or tablet will need a Wi-Fi mini access point or Wi-Fi router to connect to ECoS.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted February 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2017 Thanks Keith - I had that first incarnation and would not bother again....ECoS excellent but that wasn't, hence my IPhone comments Cheers Phil
