West Hartlepool Creosote Works Shunter

Recommended Posts

  Hi,

I realise this is a little obscure, but I am after any photos / information on the Departmental locomotive

which worked at the Creosote works at West Hartlepool  ?

I know very little, other than I believe it's Departmental number was 52

Someone must know something, all  help appreciated ...

Photos of the loco would be such a bonus !l

According to the book, 'BR Departmental locos 1948-68' [ian allan] the locos were dept 52 [1950-61], 86 [Ruston DS88 1961-65] & 15097 [1949-50] Dept 52 Was FC Hibberd 4wDM built 1950 originally BR 11104, picture on p23. The book is available for a tenner or so & has the track plan & details of the other locos.

and

'11104 was allocated to a 1950 Hibberd 'Planet' 4wDM.  It had a 52hp English
National  Gas DA4 engine, 3 speed chain drive and weighed 11t.  It was
renumbered as departmental No. 52 in May 1953 under NER(CCE) W. HArtlepool
PW Depot.  It later moved on to the SR in 1965 and was withdrawn in 1967.'

There is a half page photo of Departmental 52 in the December/January issue (no. 222) of Modern Locomotives Illustrated - Departmental Locomotives.

Having made progress with this build and approaching the painting stage ,   I  have a few furher questions ..

     *     What livery (colour) was this loco painted in it's BR days ??

     *     Although hard to believe, was it lined ?? and if so what colour and where ?

     *     Did it carry and lettering , eg Departmental etc,etc ?

     *     Did it carry it 's number ?

Any photos would be a real bonus ..

Many thanks,   Ian
