Popular Post KNP
The chicken coop part 2 The new fence has been painted and fitted and that is it for now.... The third shed to do which was going to be a garden shed, a pigeon loft and now I found this mesh I am now thinking of an aviary Or I might start the cottage whilst I am thinking about it! RMweb Gold teaky Posted September 16, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2022 An aviary. Are you sure? For a cage to recognisable as an aviary it would surely need birds and if one assumes typical aviary birds are small ones you're going to have to model things around 1mm in height. That sounds like quite a challenge, Kevin. 3 2

So there's a crate that no one knows the contents of and now you're considering an aviary with mystery birds. Only in Little Muddle! 1

I sometimes think that, but I realise that viewing staged work like this is an excellent tutorial and you can apply the methods to your own work and practice, practice, practice. I've been busy with one of my paintings and was scratching my head about imitating velvet. I spent a while studying some of my great great grandfathers work, thinking about sticking to swearing at vintage motorcycles because he studied in Paris in the 1880s, but that's where I thought I can learn from someone who did know what he was doing and the how to was right in front of me. I hope you're joking, don't give up! Inspired by Kevin's work, I've been outside and liberated various tiny sticks from ancient fuschia and lavender bushes and whacked them in the microwave. 10

RMweb Gold Graham T Posted September 16, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2022 Ref the aviary birds. A long time ago I vaguely knew someone who kept a rather large owl in an aviary, I don't recall which species. Anyway, a large owl should be recognisable in 4mm scale!
MrWolf
That's an interesting thought, I did know someone at Witney who had an owl sanctuary. A bit modern perhaps, but what about a home for a hunting bird? Just don't do pigeons, those flying rats will ruin your shiny green locos! 1

That sounds like quite a challenge, Kevin. Preiser do an assorted bird pack - https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/magento/preiser-pr10169.html - and despite the title, some of these are pigeon/dove size. (If anyone wants any, PM me, I have a spare pack). Now if Kevin wants canaries, then 'modelling' them resting sounds a cunning plan! An owl is certainly a biggish bird - the South Devon Railway's station at Totnes is next to a rare breeds centre and part of their advertising was to meet incoming trains with an owl on someone's wrist, so I've seen one close up. I've seen one advertised in 1:76 somewhere, possibly one of the white metal moulding firms? 2
RMweb Gold teaky Posted September 16, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2022 Here's an idea. A pigeon loft without birds plus baskets on one of the platforms and we can have hours of fun (?) trying to establish if the pigeons are in the baskets, inside the enclosed part of the aviary or en-route from some far flung release point. I know, I know, we shouldn't encourge him! 6 1 2

Well I seem to remember that you have a dovecote, and one of those comes with the beehives from Dart Castings, so yes, you probably have got some. They'll turn up shortly after you order some more 🥸 2
