That's a really atmospheric small industrial scene and takes me back to my childhood when this factory was still just about running. It's still there, just very expensive loft apartments now.  The grey convertible with the black top is parked outside my grandfather's house and just visible on the right are the signs on the garage owned by my other grandfather's cousin. The garage buildings on my layout are inspired by that place.

Leicester or Northampton?

I’m liking the bay window set back under the sturdy balcony.

I think that the balcony was added in the 20s or 30s, you would be able to see four or five miles from that vantage point.

Of course it was modernised in the 1980s and has lost much of its character and the balcony, although the big doors for the vans have survived.

I’ve been involved in putting the production IT systems at many of the surviving footwear manufacturers in Northamptonshire, so nice to see the pics and model above. I know all about clicking, gimping and skiving, though don’t tell anyone about it!

Probably before your time and certainly before IT systems part of my mother's family that had moved out of Shropshire was the Wain of Pollard & Wain "Airborne" shoes, one of the many that was swallowed up by British Shoe Corporation in the mid 70s.
