RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted March 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2017 That's the end of that bridge. Does the line carry enough traffic to justify rebuilding it? http://trainfanatics.com/burning-900-foot-train-bridge-collapses/?a=lm&var=BridgeBurn-ILT

Andy Y
That looks more like a controlled fire, all piers with equal amounts of burn at bottom, middle and top. Plus the whooping fireman at the end. Plus it seems to be nearly two years four years old - http://www.kxxv.com/story/22405144/burning-railroad-bridge-collapses-in-central-texas

Signaller69
Crikey, thats a big fire. Reminds me of one that came up in a safety brief about using common sense when stopping a train, in this case how not stopping a coal train with a melting wheel bearing dripping molten metal on a wooden trestle may have been a better idea! http://www.arizonarails.com/bad_day.html

Every trestle seems to be burning in the same place about half way up I understand that the owners had recently taken the line over from a company that had gone bust. Adrian Wintle
Certainly looks like an "Insurance Job". Every trestle seems to be burning in the same place about half way up I understand that the owners had recently taken the line over from a company that had gone bust. The burning half way up is on the cross braces on the bents. The flames show on the horizontal surfaces (or the undersides). The fire would have spread relatively quickly over the surfaces of the timbers as they would have been creosote-soaked to preserve them. The timbers would have taken much longer to burn through enough to affect the structural integrity of the trestle. Adrian
dibber25
The Kinsol Trestle on Vancouver Island had some fire damage, allegedly started by school kids celebrating the end of term. It was doused by one of the Martin Mars flying boats. The whole trestle has since been rebuilt as a footbridge on the trans-Canada trail. The article I posted had no date and the comments were recent, so I assumed it was new. Certainly a long trestle bridge at Yarra Glen was totally destroyed in the 2009 bush fires, in somewhat similar fashion. I believe the Country Fire Authority didn't even attend, as on this day 173 people died with fires well out of control on huge fronts. So an railway bridge insignificant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Saturday_bushfires
Grovenor
This one much more recent, and our Canadian cousins don't delay repairs.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhdVW6lp7yQ Regards
