RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 11, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2021 Evening everyone, although I’ve not done much over the last month or two since my last update I had started ballasting and weathering the track on the second board but over the last couple of weeks I’ve also decided to change the track plan so it’s more in keeping with the original Edge Hill servicing point. I’ve also decided to call it Edge Hill rather than North Mersey Diesel as apart from making a few changes to the shed and track plan it’s pretty much based on Edge Hill diesel serving point that was built in the 60’s. Here’s a few photos of the progress so far and also included is a rather crude photo showing how I’ll be removing the point I built and just having the one point like the prototype rather the two. 10

I do love the way you have ballasted and weathered the track ...... It looks superb and you have definitely brought it to life. Jim 4

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 16, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 16, 2021 Well it’s not exactly exciting stuff but I’ve finally managed to get around to doing a bit albeit not very much. I’ve started to scratch build some yard lamps so the other day I purchased some 9mm diameter wooden dowel rod and tonight I extended some peco ladders I had. Like I said nothing exciting but at least I’m back modelling.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 21, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2021 I took this the other week but using a piece of flexi gives you the idea of how I’ll change the track plan, please ignore the fuel tank it’s just plonked on the board.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 25, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 25, 2021 So today I actually had a bit of time to myself so thought I’d size up moving the turnout properly, but the curve will be far to tight if it’s on the second board so, the plan will be remove the point that’s built already and just curve the track around and just have the one turnout still on the third board 6

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 26, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2021 A bit of help please everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot of changing the track plan like in the photo I posted last night to make it more like the original, but would the track plan I currently have add more interest? What’s everyone’s thoughts?
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted September 2, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 2, 2021 Going off old photos of the real location Edge Hill serving shed had more modern yard lamps fitted when it was built, presumably replacing the old lights of the steam shed. Although I haven’t found any that are an exact replica I did find some that will do on ebay and should look ok with a bit of additions to the bottom half of each lamp. Here’s a couple of photos before I modify them and the start of some of the add ons

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted September 7, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2021 Finishing touches to the first lamp today and managed to see how it will look in place on the layout. Also a rather clean D9015 made an appearance on Edge Hill prior to weathering for a friend. 10

If so, what is the earthy brown/frame dirt type shade on the cab steps and the axle box next to the sandbox please? I've weathered in enamels for years but am recently trying powders. Morning buddy, yes I use powders to weather all my locos wagons etc and track, I usually add a base layer of acrylic paint such as black or frame dirt then add weathering powders. The powders themselves are normally black, light and dark earth and u tend to use them separately in certain areas then mix them for other areas. I really must do a proper how to video but this one might help in the meantime. Also I’ve got a weathering thread on here called ‘Dirty Diesels’ which might be of help also, if you have any other questions or if I can help in anyway just ask 2

Here’s a link to my weathering thread, I haven’t posted much on there of late but I will be updating very soon when I start the deltic, I’ve also got a peak and another 40 to weather. I did have a couple of fb groups but I’ve come off it, anyway enjoy your meeting and here a link to my weathering thread 1
