Hi Paul, looks like another good line up with respect to both model and 1:1 forms.

"BR Green livery BR mainline Diesel locomotive" ??? - Let us in on the secret!

The "arrive'n'drive" a Peckett  :locomotive:  is an excellent addition to the event's line-up and I hope it goes ahead.  I'll certainly have to make sure I get relief sometime during the weekend so I can have a go and to also get round the entire site for once!  You really ought to do a two day ticket!

Looking forward to the show as usual - I can only be grateful that I persuaded you to let me bring New Dalby this year so I can enjoy an entire weekend of it all!

See you all soon.

Cheers, Andy.

Hi All

Unfortunately Addison Park will not be attending this years show and has now been replaced by an OO layout 'South Town' which is 1950s / 60s themed steam / diesel.

We are hoping Addison park will attend next year.

Hi Everyone

Further update for this years Midland Railex show.

We can now confirm another visiting layout which is 'Westbrook'.   N gauge BR late 80s / early 90s  'sectorisation' period.

Also hot news, we can now confirm the visiting diesel locomotive will be BR class 33 number D6501 (33 002) from the South Devon Railway.

This is a superb class 33 being restored to as near original condition and painted in as built BR green without yellow panels and no high intensity headlights!!

The locomotive roster for the Railex weekend will be:-

56xx ex GW 0-6-2 tank   n'   5619   (Unlined BR black)

Class 33   n'  D6501  (BR Green)

Class 45   n'  45 041 'Royal Tank Regiment'  (BR Blue)

Class 47   n   47 401 'North Eastern'   (BR Blue)

Also resident 0-4-0 Peckett saddle tank 'Whitehead' will be working from Butterley across the reservoir to Hammersmith on 'Driver for a fiver' runs.   A good chance for all to get to drive a steam locomotive!!

It is hoped that 0-4-0 saddle tank 'Lytham St Annes' will also be in steam

We are now in the final stages with the show and would like to see as many people as possible visit the show which ensures the future of this popular event and aids the railway with much needed funds.

Thank you

Just a query, is there a bus or shuttle linking the event area with a main line station?

Hi

We do not have a special shuttle bus but there are regular service buses from Derby to Ripley which pass the station at Butterley.

Please contact the Midland railway booking office on 01773 747674 who will be able to advise on times etc and also if the station at Langley Mill would be a better option

Hi All

A further update for the Midland Railex at Butterley August 12th / 13th

Unfortunately due to reasons beyond their control Invicta Model Rail have had to pull out from this years show.

We have been fortunate to find an Alternative trader to the show and look forward to Ravenstone Models attending.

Not long now to the show.  We look forward to seeing many of you at the show and hope you all have an enjoyable time.

I'll be there on the MERG stand.

Paul - is there a stand layout diagram I can download anywhere?   I notice that some other exhibitors know which site (Butterley/Swanwick Junction) and which building they are in, but I am missing that info and I would like to tell our members where to come to for setup.

Hi Pete

I have just checked and MERG are located in the HMRS building located next to the museum.

Hi All

We are now able to confirm the morning train times departing from Butterley for this weekends show.

Shuttles will start at 09.30 with full line running starting with the 11.25 service.  Shuttles will then start in the afternoon at 15.45.

Butterley Depart  09.30  Locomotive 47 401

Butterley Depart  10.00  Locomotive 45 041 + D6501

Butterley Depart  10.25  Locomotive 5619 + 47 401

Butterley Depart  10.50  Locomotive 45 041 + D6501

Butterley Depart  11.25  Locomotive 5619  (this will be the first service running full line)

The same diagrams will operate Sunday with the same locomotives allocated.

The last shuttle departs from Swanwick at 16.45 on each day

Please note that for operational reasons the trains will pass through Butterley station to Hammersmith and then return to form the next shuttle. This is due to the token needed to be worked through to Hammersmith before the trains can return to Swanwick and takes only 6 minutes.  Afternoon shuttles will stop at Butterley to allow passengers to depart before continuing to Hammersmith.

We look forward to seeing you at the show and thank you for supporting us. The show raises funds to support the railways many projects.

Visited yesterday and enjoyed myself, thanks to all those who made it possible. However one issue was not being able to get hold of a timetable for the train service, nor could I see the timetable on display anywhere.

I visited this morning and have to agree as regards the timetables and loco allocations not being clearly displayed. I enjoyed the show - there was a good mix of trade and some fine layouts on display. I would agree about Oulton being one of the best although, as a steam era modeller, I preferred Kirkby Stephen West. Catering was better this year than in the past too.

I'd been looking forward to this for a while, and then last night realised that I had completely forgotten to go :( I'm not at the age where that should be happening yet.. I blame being off work last week so Saturday rolling around wasn't as obvious.

I went on the Saturday with a mate who had been to last years show. Good job really, or I think I would have missed a lot of the exhibits due to them being scattered all over the site ( extremely large site! )and not being particularly well signposted.

The main body of the show in the Diesel shed, was well organised and didn't feel cramped, I just found it a bit sort of spread out a lot around the rest of the site which cost the show some atmosphere I thought. We also experienced, on two separate occasions, a couple of grumpy officials - one of which at the DMU restoration sheds, accused us of being in the workshop unauthorised! We let him know gently that we hadn't and wanted to chat about a couple of their units under restoration. He was so uncommunicative, we gave up and went on to look elsewhere.

Generally a good day, marred by a couple of gripes and I don't want to sound churlish at all, but wanted to give the organisers a bit of feedback.

cheers

Andy

Highlight of the show a very rare Timneh Parrot (a small African Grey) on the wonderful Woodie's Wings display.

PS - I thought all attendees get a copy of the full colour 24 page exhibition guide so its not too difficult to find what is going on. I suspect the exercise required is disliked!

Hi All

I would like to say thank you to all who visited this years Midland Railex show and welcome feedback from the event.

It is nice to hear that the selected layouts proved popular as this is always a hard task picking exhibits. Without any doubt we knew that Oulton TMD would be popular as would Rowntree halt and Kirkby Stephen.+

Next years show is already coming together with the superb N gauge Loch Tat booked to attend which is another top exhibit along with other top layouts.

We apologise for timetables not being on general display.  This was due to the actual working timetable not being completed until late on Thursday because of a problem with one of the locomotives which resulted in the whole thing having to be rewritten!

We did chalk up the train times on the notice board at Swanwick Junction advising of 'Next Train to...' to help but aim to have the times printed and displayed next year with all the departures either way from Swanwick Junction shown make it easier for you to plan your visit.

The Railex team will be getting together over the next few weeks to have a post show meeting and welcome new ideas being put forward to build this popular show.  If you have any ideas then please post ideas on here for us to pick up and take on board.  Also any layout owners out there that would like to attend can also contact us.

The team are going to have a break now for a couple of weeks but will be on hand through RMweb to reply to any suggestions etc.

Once again a big thank you to all the visitors, exhibitors, demonstrators, loco and operational crews, signalmen, station booking office staff, catering staff, GVLR staff, static power staff, road transport musuem staff, 4x4 response, the MRB management and all the hard working stewards.

Regards

Paul

One attraction that seemed quite popular was the Driver for a Fiver. Well worth it to drive across the reservoir and back on the diminutive 0-4-0T.

They set a challenge to stop with the buffers level with the edge of the top of the platform ramp, I managed within two inches, beaten by my 20 year old daughter though who managed it inch perfect.....

Another good mix of prototype and models, thanks again to all involved,

Dave

Hi

The driver for a fiver with the Peckett proved very popular.  We would like to have this available again next year and it is planned.

Paul and the rest of the Midland RailEx organising team,

Thanks for another brilliant weekend!  My oppo and I had a thoroughly enjoyably time between operating New Dalby and demoing wagon kit-building, talking with many visitors and also giving/taking much stick from the Oulton TMD lads.  Another well balanced show with quality layouts and a wide choice of trade mixed with the big stuff! - Already looking forward to taking Loch Tat (By Adrian Lambourne) next year for a weekend in the tin tabernacle - We had better be on our best behaviour!

Great show, great bunch of folks!

Cheers, Andy.
