RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted June 3, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2017 Hi folks A good friend has a Bachmann 5552 Silver Jubilee - looks nice within the limitations of the model. Bachmann have reproduced the chrome boiler bands with strips of rather springy metal which were presumably glued on over the existing moulded boiler bands. Differential thermal expansion has taken its toll at some stage and they have all popped off! Has anyone tried refitting them and got any sage words please? He brought it to me to look at along with two other models with issues I sorted in short order - so afraid I am now being hoist by my own petard as there is a perception I can do an excellent job on this model too. But the prospect of trying to re-fix rigid but springy metal strips on to raised semi-circular mouldings fills me with fear! Cheers Phil Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you've got a steady hand, Alclad chrome paint. If you've got good eyesight and a steady hand, cut kitchen foil into strips and stick on with varnish. Mike.
