ozzyo
Hello all, just a couple of questions about Slater's wheels, now I have been using them for years but the packs that I have just opened have steel coloured Allen screws, are these any better than the normal "black" ones? Also can you use any blackening on them (I'll give it a go in a minute or two when I'm back in the workshop). Someone has also mentioned that Slater's are using (a gel, or something) to stop the rusting problem, how long have we been on about this? Knowing Mr. W. it will be something that is cheap and a bu99er to remove like Vaseline. OzzyO. PS, all of the above are my own thoughts and are nothing to do with the website. Nicktoix
I use "gun blue" obtainable from Eileen's in a pen form. I alslo use it on the tyres. Nick
Quarryscapes
The ones in my Quarry Hunslet were blackened with Gun Blue, academic anyway as they were painted red once on the model.
RMweb Gold ROSSPOP Posted August 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 7, 2017 Hi Ozzy The steel coloured allen screws are better quality now but still prone to rust if exposed to flux vapour I think they blacken particularly well with Birchwood Casey Super Blue and then follow up with Electrofix. john
ozzyo
Thanks all, when I got back in the workshop yesterday I just got out my super blue and it did work well. OzzyO.
