NER turntables

Does anyone know if there was a standard NER turntable design and, if so, who was the designer and where I might be able to find scale drawings etc? I'm particularly interested in the East Yorkshire area. Likewise I would be interested in any advice on loco coaling facilities. Examples of locations I am interested in are Bridlington Driffield, Scarborough, Whitby.

Hopefully I will put this knowledge to good use shortly and incorporate these aspects into an OO layout I am planning.

Thanks!

If you can find a copy of this book it might help you out

I haven't got my copy immediately to hand but from recollection a lot of the turntables were Cowans Sheldon of various lengths (42', 50' etc)

Edit: London Road Models sell kits for the 42' and 50' turntables

49395 has got it right. That book shows that Cowans and Sheldon supplied around 70% of the NER's turntables. The earliest ones were, indeed, mainly 42', but from around 1879 the normal size was 50'. Then, in 1900 and thereafter a few 55' ones were installed, mainly at Leeds Neville Hill shed, but from around 1905 the standard size was 60', which was the norm until after grouping.

The book is not so illuminating regarding coaling, the coverage being far less comprehensive than other sections, such as water cranes and towers. There is a 1956 photo of Whitby, and a note that Bridlington did not have any coaling facilities, at least by 1929. There is, however, a useful suggestion that the North Eastern Railway Association can supply, at a modest price, facsimiles of LNER Loco Shed diagrams, which would appear to show the coaling arrangements.

I've found this site for model Cowans Sheldon turntables but no personal experience of them. A good range appears to be on offer. Has anyone else come across these?http://www.metalsmith.co.uk/4mmscaleCowansSheldonPre-Groupingturntable.htm

London Road Models also do etched kits, wells, etc. for 42 and 50 foot CS turntables. There is also 60 ft version in the pipeline.
