The Black Hat
Hello all, Just wondering if the Europorte GBRf livery, with the tunnel roundels at either end is a darker shade of blue than the GBRf blue that went before it. Just wondering as needing to paint an engine into Europorte livery and wonder if the shades of Railmatch and Pheonix are the first varient and as a result should use something else. Thanks in advance for advice.
Steadfast
GBRf blue an orange seems very very variable depending where and when it was repainted. Some of the early Europorte era repaints use a darker, greener blue and a nasty washed out shade of orange that looks like sand after a while. 66740 is from this batch. 66735 was repainted a similar time at Loughborough, not Eastleigh and is a noticably richer colour on both blue and orange. The new build batch (66752 onwards) use really bright rich shades, similar to the original locos when fresh out the factory. Best bet I'd recommend is find photos of the loco you want to model and see how it compares to different applications and any RTR you may already have, adjusting the shade you use as required. Steadfast
The 20s had similar paint colours to the early Eastleigh 66s, sandy orange and quite a greeny blue, here's a couple of pics highlighting the paler shades vs the richer ones One of the new 66s https://www.flickr.com/photos/chris_livings/15554481604/ A 73 https://www.flickr.com/photos/60854097@N06/23734635062/ A Brush repainted 66 https://www.flickr.com/photos/91977133@N04/8494098663/in/photolist-dWAtAX Jo
