Hornby / Lima Class 33 Body

Recommended Posts

Quick and simple and considering my experiance, should know !

Can ye olde Lima class 33 bodyshell be straight swapped onto the Hornby class 33 or was the fixings changed at some point ?

Thanks in advance.

As long as it's the older style Hornby class 33 there shouldnt be a problem. Edited by crazynitwit

The Lima Class 33 (assuming it is the OO scale version, there was a HO version as well that sometimes pops up on the second hand market often incorrectly being sold as a OO one) had two incarnations of its body shell.  Earliest versions had the four body side securing clips on the chassis frame (two each side) exposed as they clipped into corresponding visible holes along the bottom edges of the body side.  Later the tooling was modified with the holes replaced by recesses on the inside of the body shell and the protruding clips on the chassis frame shortened accordingly.

The Hornby ex Lima (or 'Limby' as some call it) version of the Class 33 uses the same later hidden body clip moulding so all Lima made 33 body shells (along with the similar Class 26 and 27) should be a straight swap onto the Hornby version chassis if you have a detailed Lima body shell that needs a new chassis.

Alternatively I do believe with a little work the Heljan chassis can be made to fit as well.
