RMweb Gold melmoth Posted November 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 14, 2017 In 1935, according to Mike Fenton's book on the subject, the coach was a newly converted 42' Dean clerestory bogie, no. 9968.

Hi Melmoth Do you have any further info? please Phil, mentioned at club last night that he thinks it was a Diag E27, the window arrangement certainly looks correct for this coach. They had Running numbers 7045-9 and 7050-5, but I have to assume from your number that when converted to Camp Coaches the number was changed. Penrhos1920
Camping Coach 9968 was formerly an E17. There is a photo of one here: http://www.penrhos.me.uk/Clerestories.shtml

Penrhos1920
According to one of the GWR Coach bibles, Harris, says that coaches 6850, 6853, 6856 & 6858 were converted to camping coaches 9966 to 9969 in January 1935.
RMweb Gold melmoth Posted November 24, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2017 Also, and as per above, John Lewis provides an appendix in Mike Fenton's book listing the converted vehicles. 9968 was formerly E17 no. 6856.

RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted November 25, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 25, 2017 Is there a drawing of the E17 available, as I could do with a couple of GW clerestory compo coaches. I have noted that the E27 is in the Jim Russell book.
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted November 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 26, 2017 Listed as NRM drawing 14874 Thanks, I now have to work out how to put the number in the search engine to get a result.
