Hroth
Another test piece from a larger layout! This cakebox will be a mini-scene for my O16.5 layout "Midsomer Brevis", which isn't all that large to begin with, exploring the potential of a short scenic section between the main board and the fiddleyard. A photo ot two of the mock up will appear before the end of the week. (Where's Occams Razor when you need it?) Ok, first thoughts... Helicopter and eyelevel view of "Christopher" and a flat wagon trundling through a minor road bridge. However, I will probably ditch the bridge as its nearly 150mm high and hasn't got a parapet! Instead, I might have them skulking along a hedgerow or across a farm crossing on the way from Midsomer Brevis to the fiddleyard (I can't recall what I called the other end of the line...) Some things to note. "Christopher" is still in works, handrails, painting not finished and nameplate is "somewhere"... Must have got pressed into service to haul the engineers train.... Hroth
"Christopher" is a Smallbrook Studio "Thor" resin kit, running on a Hornby Caly Pug chassis. The flat is a Dapol wagon chassis with a collection of coffee stirrers on top...
Hroth
Just to show that I've not been entirely sitting on my hands, "Under Way gets a base coat of paint.... The scrap of code 100 streamline track has also had every other sleeper excised to give it a more "rustic" look. I can't remember when I put the DAS on, must have been about the same time as Drovers Road. Next: More paint a bit of gluing and filling, etc and out with the static grass thingy! And ballast, overgrown ballast. Can't forget that! Edited May 24, 2018 by Hroth
Andrew Cockburn
This reminds me a bit of my current CB offering, "into the tunnel!" Its been a while since I used DAS modelling clay, but you can get some good effects with it, look forward to seeing how it develops further.

RMweb Premium Northroader Posted May 25, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 25, 2018 Not much to do with cakeboxes, but how does Christopher perform, ie the Caley pug chassis. I’ve got some On16.5 bits, running on an old Nellie and slightly more recent Desmond, I just wish they’d go a bit slower. The tunnel mouth is looking good. Hroth
Not much to do with cakeboxes, but how does Christopher perform, ie the Caley pug chassis. I’ve got some On16.5 bits, running on an old Nellie and slightly more recent Desmond, I just wish they’d go a bit slower. The tunnel mouth is looking good. In recent years, the Hornby 0-4-0 chassis used in their basic Railroad locos seems to have improved considerably in terms of steadiness and slow(er) running. Provided you can identify a suitable donor, the newer chassis work well. I got mine when Hattons were selling new Blue Caly pugs unboxed from a train set. Hroth
This is still a work in progress...."Christopher" (sans nameplates and looking as if it has been dragged out of the paintshop) has paused for the driver to chat with the PW volunteers who have been cutting back and burning trackside scrub. Burning scrub, unburned scrub and scrub still in situ need to be placed and the gossips painted. The driver will be standing in the cab once painted!
Hroth
The chatty trio have now had a slap of paint applied! Now for their bonfire and some burnworthy undergrowth...
