col_kilgore
Right as I still have a few days left off work I thought I would make a start on my second entry into the competition. I'm still not sure of the final plan but I want to do a winter based scene. As I have never tried modelling winter I thought I would start with a little scene just to try out winter effects on. So after a couple of hours this morning and using a few items from the bits box and some cardboard this is what I came up with. As you can see not too " wintery " at the moment but I'm still reading tutorials and articles about winter modelling before I dare make a start on the ice and snow ! Hopefully it wont look to bad and I can get on with the actual entry. Cheers for looking
col_kilgore
Hhhhmmmm , here we go my first winter experiments. I used talc to begin with just sprinkled on and tried fixing it with spray varnish ( the tutorial I read recommended hairspray but I cant find my wife's at the mo and she is out ! ) , although it looks good in the grass , the trouble is its not really holding onto the scenery very well so I will have to try hairspray to see if it holds better. I then used white weathering powder on the mud , fence and roof and applied it with with a soft brush. All in all I quite like it , it's sort of the thing I was after , a nice hard frosty morning effect rather than six foot of snow.
GeoffinOz
That looks really effective, Hope you fill the gap between fence and shed or the sheep will get out!!
Bergmann
Or add a German shepherd, then the fence can also go away. Nice model.
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted December 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2017 So after a couple of hours this morning and using a few items from the bits box and some cardboard this is what I came up with. Great work, and fast. A couple of hours is about the time it would have taken me to find the sheep in the spares box! Can I ask what you used for the grey gravel-like ground texture please? I like the look and texture of it.
Ashcombe
Or add a German shepherd, then the fence can also go away. Nice model. Are they better than British shepherds?!

Once its layed and dry I just brush it over with a mix of weathering powders using a big fluffy make up brush. A quick aternative rather than mixing your own is to get some Reptile sand from a pet shop comes in different colours including black and is pretty cheap for a couple of kilos. Bergmann
Are they better than British shepherds?! I also think, in fact, the good training of the herding dog is more important than the race. Only the German Shepherd I have already seen as a commercially available model.

I will try the Reptile sand as I also need some Chinchilla dust. And we don't even have pets anymore :-)
col_kilgore
I thought it was about time I actually made some progress on this one ! So MDF was cut for the base and cardboard and household filler was used to build up the ground level ; This was my first idea for the structure to be included , simply made from Wills sheets and plastic rod for the drainpipe . While I liked the way it looked in the scene , after painting it just didn't look right so I decided to try something else ; This is the second version made from Wills sheets and the brick sections from a Dapol platform kit . I like it although I'm not sure about the height of it . I think the taller first structure looked a little better in the scene ; Anyway thanks for looking , as usual comments and questions are welcome .
Guest ShildonShunter
Hi great modelling I like the way you achieve the inclined sections by using layers of cardboard and then filled with polyfilla. The hut looks well looking forward to seeing more.
GeoffinOz
Very Nice, what is going to be behind the fence? the side of a soccer(football) ground, some spectators with their backs to us but one watching the trains, the pole could be lighting for the pitch. Or maybe some cows watching the trains go by. Not the usual rubbish or building site please!
Andrew Cockburn
Nice modelling so far, would I be correct to assume that you're going to add some more detail to the scene, ie figures etc.?
