RMweb Premium melmerby Posted January 22, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2018 Hi all Does anyone know the codes for the infra red remote which is part of the spec of the DR5000? I have found it is Uhlenbrock Iris compatible but I can't find any info on what codes it uses apart from the fact it uses RC5 format @ 36kHz I could set up a IR remote to suit but don't know what I should be sending! Trip
DR5000 documentation is pretty poor. However, there's a Facebook group here which seems to be quite active and knowledgeable.
nnich
DR5000 documentation is pretty poor. However, there's a Facebook group here which seems to be quite active and knowledgeable. I don't know about IR control Keith, I think I read in the documentation that it is yet to be implemented. However I have found that with the latest dr5000 software it is very easy to use the Z21 mobile app via the DR5000 wifi. I'd be happy to give you the steps I took if you need themNorm
WIMorrison
Does the Z21 app allow you to control accessories with the DR5000 and do you get feedback to the display from occupancy detectors?

All I want to do is change a turnout occasionally away from computer connection. Cheap RC =£1 and works fine with other RC5 encoded devices. The receiver in the DR5000 does receive input but I am assuming the actual operating code required is something different from e.g. a TC or VCR Cheers Keith Edited January 24, 2018 by melmerby

Why because doesn't even cost you a pound. It's free as long as you have a tablet or smartphone. You say 'away from a computer connection'. Well to use the Z21 app technically all you need is wifi connectivity to the DR5000. However, to answer the previous post, yes you can control accessories and if you also DO have a computer control program such as JMRI or RocRail linked to the DR5000 the position of points will update on the diagram

However, to answer the previous post, yes you can control accessories and if you also DO have a computer control program such as JMRI or RocRail linked to the DR5000 the position of points will update on the diagram The system is connected to TrainController but occasionally I need to change the position of an accessory (usually the Turntable) without changing the on screen postion to get it back into sync I was originally using my Lenz 100 system handset but since I have moved the turnouts & detection onto the DR5000, leaving the Lenz for loco control I have no manual control. A cheap RC seemed the (possible?) ideal solution, yes I could use Wi-Fi, (in fact I already have a Wi-Fi hub) but I didn't want to have to take a mobile etc. to the Railway Room (it is a separate building) with the obvious problem of inadvertantly leaving it there. nnich
With respect Keith I think you are making things complicated for yourself. You really don't need your Lenz system at all now. Switch your loco control to the Digikeijs DR5000 and use either Traincontroller and/or the z21 mobile app. (Either will work separately or if both are in use ( I.e switched on and connected to the DR5000 built in hub) then symbols will update in both places regardless of where you operate the layout from) For anyone interested in this solution check out Z21.co.uk. One caveat however is that although you can control turnouts, signals, lights etc with the mobile app I do not see a turntable selection in the available accessories. maybe this will be available in a future release. For anyone looking at the Z21 website above you can substitute the DR5000 for the Roco command station shown in the middle of the diagram. It's marked Z21 with WLAN router. You will need to update your DR5000 to the latest software version which is currently 1.4.4 A little background may be useful. I was in a somewhat similar position Keith. I was using digitrax equipment and JMRI before I discovered Digikeijs. I still have a lot of digitrax DS64's and BD4's for turnout operation and block detection and I was using WIThrottle for a remote control. I took the plunge to purchase the DR5000. It works seamlessly with my digitrax DS64s and BD4's and for further detection blocks I've added a DR4088LN. Finally I updated to RocRail for the computer control and like you found that although I had everything else I wanted I had lost the remote control capability since WIThrottle does not work in this environment. Hence my discovery of the Z21 app Norm
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted January 25, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2018 With respect Keith I think you are making things complicated for yourself. You really don't need your Lenz system at all now. Switch your loco control to the Digikeijs DR5000 There is a common sense reason for splitting loco and point control when using Train Controller. If for any reason you get a s/cct on the loco circuit you can't operate the points, by separating them you still can. It also helps to split the load. My point motors (Tortoises & Switch-8s) consume about 700mA of track current. There are also about 30 locos sitting on the layout at any time as well as lit coaches and resistive axle stock. (No sound though!) I need the extra current! (I have two boosters as well which, as yet, are not in circuit but will be used to split the layout even further into 3 power districts.)
