micro make over

kevo

Recommended Posts

Hi all some time back I started building a small micro layout 'based around a british  cement plant with a silo etc  . having had next to no rolling stock and locos  as every think went with the sale of my last layout . I had to start again . not much came of this and soon I found a strong pull towards American  stock agin  so have ing  had a good think on this . why not do a make over with what I have . so over last few weeks I have been bizzy  make a few changes to try and get a look that I was happy  with . post-26535-0-73457300-1525450723_thumb.jpg

Nice micro, the Coles crane look very British!

It probably got mixed in with some Lend/Lease stuff being returned after the War. :mosking: ;)

I like the "ultra-shorty" boxcar!! Cut & shut?? You ain't kidding!!! :D

Dear Kevo,

The layout's gorgeous, the 45 fits right in. As far as the crane goes, just put "Bucyrus" on it somewhere, instant US-ifcation... ;-)

I take it there's a cassette, traverser, or similar officers at left?

Happy Modelling,

With the aim of improving accuracy, isn’t that a 44 tonner?

And I think the Coles crane looks like a Coles, but...

Ruston-Bucyrus cranes were Bucyrus-Erie over there, and the Langley RB crane, sometimes sold as ‘00/H0’ (yeah, right!) is actually H0.

Dear Regularity,

The Red loco in the first picture is confirmed as a 45 tonner (note the siderods).

Ah yes. I had the most recent photo in my mind, showing B&M 118.

Well  we  have had  some real warm weather here in southern england this week end . so i have had a crack at some out door weather ing  its been some time since i used my old air  brush  1st off  the GE 70 ton switcher . I started by  remove ing   the Bethlehem steel co  decal's from the sidespost-26535-0-01477500-1525711400_thumb.jpgpost-26535-0-11203600-1525711458_thumb.jpg with nail varnish remover . next  mix up a grime mix  and blow a coat over post-26535-0-28488100-1525711650_thumb.jpg . I think I got carried a way with this as its come out a bit on the heavy side . so I have since removed some with acrylic thinners .post-26535-0-40664000-1525711971_thumb.jpg all so the covered hoppers got a coat as well . not sure if I am happy at the moment with any of it but I can sit back and think bits of dry brushing and washes might help.

post-26535-0-80256400-1525972574_thumb.jpgTanks steve i did  have another look At the 70 tonner yester day might add a few more streaks yet . been working out what switching i can get a way with . as it is limitted size of the layout  i have been use ing 2 locos  . one to bring in freight cars the other to switch the small yard .  i can juggle about 4 cars comfortably   but if i add another 2 uncouple ing magnets i might even get 5 cars on the move  hold ing  one car back on the  traverser . any way by have ing  a change in rolling stock  and different locos it stops the boredom

I also removed the foot boards front and rearpost-26535-0-30342500-1528148993_thumb.jpgpost-26535-0-59753500-1528149349_thumb.jpgpost-26535-0-21421700-1528149409_thumb.jpg. and one job I have at last got round to was make ing  up some kind of barrier for the end of the traverser in the fiddle yard before there was a accident with a run a waypost-26535-0-95019900-1528149632_thumb.jpg
