AberdeenBill
Hi all, Assuming the link works, I refer you to this fine photo of Penistone in 1976 with class 76s galore, but please can somebody explain the signalling with a 'shunt forward' (?) arm below the home signal and just beyond it two miniature arms. Note also the home + distant combination at the start of the other platform, which might be criticised in a model... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2003594579653455&set=gm.2044123555828910&type=3&theater Thanks, Bill

LNERGE
Looks more like Godley Junction? http://www.lymmobservatory.net/railways/sbdiagrams/woodhead3/mswstage2_150dpi_q25.jpg here it is from the other direction.. https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/mysteryphotos/show.htm?img=Y-34-05A Edited May 16, 2018 by LNERGE
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 16, 2018 The signals on the left apply to two different lines. The tall siding signals apply to the line on the left and the main arm with the call-on below apply to the line to the right. The home / distant doesn't look particularly unusual. Penistone was a junction and there doesn't appear to be any sign of a junction, are we sure this is Penistone ? Edit - beaten by Richard to the actual location. LNERGE
So, going back to the original photo at Godley junction, i believe they changed loco's here. How was this carried out? How far did the wires go beyond Brookfold?
RMweb Premium PaulCheffus Posted May 18, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) So, going back to the original photo at Godley junction, i believe they changed loco's here. How was this carried out? How far did the wires go beyond Brookfold? Hi As far as I can tell they used the loops to swap the locos from Diesel to Electric and vice versa. The wires didn't extend very far along the line and I don't think they went to the road bridge carrying Green Lane over the line. This shows the end of the overhead. The up loop is on the far right and the through siding has disappeared from the left. https://www.flickr.com/photos/deadmans_handle/4279863550 Little bit of digging would put that photo about the middle of this map http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=53.4490&lon=-2.0582&layers=6&right=BingHyb Cheers Paul Edited to add link to map of potential location of the above photo.
