And the LBSCR had invested heavily to encourage that. Singleton was lavishly provided with facilities that only royal visitors to West Dean could have needed. 

Perhaps if the Weald and Downland Living Museum had opened a few decades earlier those facilities might have seen a bit more use ...............................

Yes. I have to say that standing on the platform at Singleton, as I did in the early '80s, was one of life's more surreal experiences. No camera with me, of course....
