mikesndbs
Hi Does anyone know how to fit these side bars please? Seem to fit on the inside, there is one little pin but it does not seem to fit the corresponding hole, and in trying to fit the part one has just snapped off? Many thanks
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted August 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2018 These are axlebox tiebars and I think the U pieces at the ends push up to locate onto the frame and then the tiny pegs are supposed to spring into the holes in the frame casting to stop the bars from dropping off. It's a very fiddly fixing because things don't quite line up (I think because of paint thickness on the frame casting) and the pegs are so long that the plastic has to be flexed quite a lot to get them to clip into the holes. First I'm going to try opening up the holes a bit and gingerly cleaning paint off the casting where it won't show behind the tiebars. Then I might consider shortening the pegs. If those things don't work then I'll think about cutting off the pegs entirely and find another way to semi-permanently hold the tiebars in place - tackywax, perhaps. RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted August 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) Hi Mike, I fitted the tiebars on my City this afternoon: As you can see, this one is not seated very happily but, having struggled get it on at all, I'm loathed to take it off again. I drilled out the holes with a .75mm drill (just twiddling it by hand) and filed down the plastic tiebars in a few places. I may shave off the peg and see how I get on. Thanks for the assist
