dasatcopthorne
Hi Guys. Has anyone had problems with chips fitted into the above. I have fitted a sound chip in this car and twice is has corrupted the chip. V4 Loksound. The chip was tested first on an ESU decoder tester and all was OK. As soon as it was fitted in the unit, there was no response at all. Following fitting then removal from the Parcels car the chip could not be read. mikeg
What scale is it, I have used a zimo chip in my O gauge one and that works well, the chip was one suitable for OO but the current draw is less than 0.7amps. Regards mike
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted January 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2019 I’ve had three 00 scale ones all fitted with ESU sound chips with no problems.
Phil S
Have you checked with a meter for non-shorting at the socket ? - Place an insulating layer beneath the socket in case long pins are touching metal below (although Heljan usually have a piece of rubber beneath ???) dasatcopthorne
I have tracked down the problem. Partly my fault and partly Heljan. On my part, I had weathered the wheels on one bogie and I discovered that the paint had got onto the wheel treads!! Mmmmm. One Heljan's part, the tiny two pin socket on the PCB that accepts track power from the other bogie with the unpainted wheels is not fully soldered to the PCB. I now have to figure how to resold the connection which is around .33mm. Jeeees. Dave.
