Staffordshire
Obscure question, but I am sure somebody will be able to answer, hopefully..... What were the dimensions of the 'Extended Smoke Deflectors' carried by West Country 34006 Bude, throughout her life ? Many thanks, Ian

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted April 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) I reckon about a third of the standard length (not the original on some, shorty style) more? Phil Edited April 15, 2019 by Mallard60022

Staffordshire
Going off topic slightly. Did any of the engines built with the short Deflectors, (34001 - 34057), I believe, keep their short Deflectors and run in BR days (and livery) ?? RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2019 It seems unlikely. Most of the repainting into BR livery occurred a year or two after Nationalisation, and the lengthened deflectors had been decided on well before that. Derry records that 21C158 was the first to be retro-fitted, and this was in 1947. As modifications go, this was a relatively minor job, not a main-works task, I suspect. It would have been done piecemeal in quite a short time. 2
