Western Star
Just a quick question... does anyone know offhand what the thickness of the footplate material is on full size steam loco's ? JB. Given that steam engines were designed and built in imperial measurements... and generally used whatever thickness plate was available from the rolling mills... and from having worked on the restoration of engines... then 1/4" would seem about correct for most of what the GWR used. regards, Graham

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 30, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2010 But don't forget the floorboards are a lot thicker - not sure what but I would have thought a couple of inches?
ozzyo
But don't forget the floorboards are a lot thicker - not sure what but I would have thought a couple of inches? IIRC, the floorboards were about 1" about the same as the old tongue and groove floorboards found in your house. OzzyO.
