Besides the exhibition of documents & pictures for fans of Thornycroft, there is plenty of free fun for families. Free face painting & henna hand art, see model railways, find factory relatives, learn about made in Basingstoke skills, a works canteen tuckshop, back to the 40s, displays, a slide show of the buildings, people and vehicles. Original vehicles will also visit the site

We had a nice day out with the Royal Albert Bridge layout, supporting a local event in Basingstoke. The Brookvale hall are raising funds to build a replica of the Thornycroft works clock to go on top of their lift tower. This was a big feature of the former Thornycroft works that once ruled the lives of so many people in Basingstoke. All that remains of the works is an overhead crane that now guards the entrance to Morrisons car park.

The layout, which is still very incomplete, ran well, and elicited some nice comments from the visitors. There is a lot to do before its real debut at TINGS later in the year.
