class37418stag
Hello everyone please excuse my English so I has searched and seen online about Scottish freight train for Fort William and Oban and Inverness and Aberdeen by Mixed freight Mixed freight - Railfreight OBA, OCA, VAA,VDA,VEA and oil tanker TTA Delivery for oil, steel, etc to Scotland from south England
Petesquire
Hi Andrew, there were certainly TTA tankers and OTA timber wagons to Oban which still had 2 rail served fuel depots.
ChrisH-UK
Were there TTAs carrying bitumen (or similar) to somewhere near Inverness? Croxton & Garry tank wagons (2-axle TUA and bogie JCA) worked to Aberdeen with products for the paper making industry, the Wiggins Teape paper mill in Corpach may have received things by rail as well as shipping its paper south. Matt
Yes bitumen TTAs to Culloden which is just south of Inverness. To add to your list: WHL - VEA with MoD stores and probably ODA too, PCAs carrying alumina to Fort William, OAAs HML - PCAs (BCC), PFAs, FPAs carrying coal, HEAs, LPG TTAs Andrew I think there is a good discussion on Scottish Freight already ongoing in the special interests - Railways of Scotland section which may help you. Correct, trains would usually reverse into Mallaig Junction Yard for marshalling and tripping to their end destination Quote so any freight train was not stopped at fort William station terminus ? Rarely other than the oil supplies to Mallaig in the 1980's which were attached to a service train from Fort William. Also later in the 90's the Alcan aluminium ingots train did use the station to run around which is shown in the excellent DVD Heavy Metal.
