Fat Controller
One of the oddest I've seen a photo of was a WW2 White Scout Car (a bit like an M3 half-track, but with wheels all round) being used at a grain silo in the Beauce region of France. The driver's view was somewhat limited, being a letterbox-sized aperture in the armour plate.
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2019 The road/rail rigs seen used in the states are a pretty cool solution. I imagine they cost a lot less than a road switcher, are suited to light work, can drive to their destination without needing a signalling path, and can run around a train without requiring pointwork. The interestesting thing about that was they used Marklin Track with steel studs & magnets fitted to the 2-rail locomotives to aid traction. Maybe, that's where DCCConcepts got the idea for their Powerbase.
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted July 27, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2021 (edited) This little Unimog runs on road wheels, with rail guide wheel bogies, and it has a road reg.no. Edited July 27, 2021 by phil_sutters
