18B
Evening, would anyone happen to know about Plymouth Harwell Street / Belmont street depot? The only details I have for it are that it seems to have opened 1959/60? and closed Oct 1969, but where exactly was it and what was there? if the link works, it seems it may well have been here? South west of the main station. https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/247275/54827/13/100952 this site has a good picture, is that a DMU window glinting under the carriage shed? http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/millbay-friary--stonehouse-branch.html regards Edited July 26, 2019 by 18B
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted July 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2019 The Old Maps link doesn't work unless you're a signed up member. Try adding the same map, but using the NLS website, which is free. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=5&lat=56.0000&lon=-4.0000&layers=102&b=1&point=0,
RMweb Premium keefer Posted July 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2019 It does work for free, you just have to zoom out a couple of times until the map shows. Also. top right above the map, click the blue box with the white square to remove the blue overlay. No idea about the depot though!

As stated above, use the zoom out icon, top lh corner, twice. The map then becomes visible
RMweb Premium keefer Posted July 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2019 (edited) On any of the maps, you'll get the 'subscribe' blue screen if you're going in too close. You just need to zoom out again to get the map. Edited July 27, 2019 by keefer
18B
its the two rectangular buildings to the right of the words "Zoom out" that I wonder whether they were like Westbury's two small one roads sheds?

After closure the depot was used for empty stock stabling. There is absolutely nothing left of this facility nor anything else on that line which served Millbay. Bernard's book has a number of excellent photos of this, I highly recommend it. Regards, Ross 2

Looking at the picture from 1964 on page 7 of Bernard's aforementioned book I'm pretty sure it features these two buildings although it seems like that may be a generous description for them! They aren't of brick construction, maybe corrugated plastic sides with corrugated roofing (the old asbestos style?) so theres a chance these aren't the original structures. It looks as if they may have been used for washing/inspecting DMUs. Regards, Ross.
