Fishplate42
Hi All, I have been collecting some On30 equipment lately and I now need to seriously think about building a layout. So far I have made a collection of Bachmann locos and rolling stock. I am really surprised at the level of detail these models have and running on Code 83 looks good too. What I am looking for is a supply of 1/48th scale logging figures - Any suggestions? Here are a couple of the locos straight out of the box - seems a shame to attack them with a razor saw and airbrush... Ralph
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted May 8, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2010 Try woodland scenics 1/48th figures and also these sold for 40mm wargaming http://www.hlbs.co.uk/range.php?id=
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted May 8, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2010 I buy Tamiya 1/48 soldiers and demilitarize them with a sharp knife. Tony
sulzer27jd
One alternative option is to use your 0n30 equipment but to model in 1/55th scale; 1 foot = 304.8mm so 3 feet = 914.4mm using 16.5mm track = 55.4 or 1/55 military modellers use 1/56 commonly referred to as 28mm scale. Most US railroads ran on 3' rather than 2'6" so your track gauge would be right, there is a supply of vehicles and scale people. check out - http://www.55n3.org for more details. I've tried it and it does look more "proportional" than running as 7mm narrow gauge. John
smudgeloco
These were some old O gauge figures (Plasticvile?) that I carved and painted.
Unknown Warrior
I also have recently aquired a selection of Bachmann On30 rolling stock. I would recomend that you get a copy of the On30 Handbook published by the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association. It is about £7.50 and has a wide range of information and many useful web site addresses - a very good starting point.Details from: www.7mmnga.org.uk
invercloy
If you're fairly new to narrow gauge (or if you're not for that matter) then you might like to consider joining NGRM as it's a really useful resource for any narrow gauge modeller. There are a few ON30 fans on there that may be able to help you out and point you in the right direction.
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 8, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2010 Hi Ralph Firstly I must declare an interest here as I help my friend Paul Martin with his EDM Models trade stand at shows - in fact we have spent the day at Burton upon Trent at the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association annual exhibition where there were a couple of On30 layouts plus a couple of traders who had just what you need. We will be out again tomorrow at the Slim Gauge Circle meeting at Bilton near Rugby - this is an informal meeting of those who model the American narrow gauge from HOn3, On3/On30/On2 up to G scale. A good starting point for you is Paul's web site http://www.ngtrains.com/ He imports a range of white metal figures in 1/48 from Mountain Blue in Australia. These are illustrated here http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Moutain_Blue/figures.htm and includes a lumberjack with an axe. You mention using code 83 track - this is available from Micro Engineering already weathered and with turnouts again illustrated here http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Track/track.htm#ME0n30 Please note that Paul has just had more turnouts delivered and there has been a price increase plus a drop in the dollar rate and so they are now £18 and not £16.50 as shown on that web page. As well as the 7mmNGA Handbook mentioned earlier by John, there has also been a series of On30 Annuals published in the States that Paul imports http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Annual/books.htm I see that you give your location as London - the next time we will have the trade stand near you will be at Expo Narrow Gauge (Expong) at Swanley in October I hope I have given you plenty of ideas - good luck with the new layout Mike

shortliner
http://www.scalefigu...om/OFG/ofg3.htm might be what you need - but the cost could soon add up! Not sure how current this list of suppliers might be http://www.freerails...=45&forum_id=11 http://gold.mylargescale.com/Scottychaos/OscaleNGResourcePage.html
