RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 12, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2010 There are a press announcement today regarding the Edge Hill Pendelino depot, and to bring the journalists to Liverpool Virgin used their Pretendelino, top and tailed by 57/3s - the train arrived early afternoon as 1T29 ex Euston and then ran empty to Crewe as 5T29, where it, rather bizarrely reversed and returned almost immediately (presumably because the train couldn't stable at Lime Street - no space, or at Downhill - the journalists were there so Crewe and back got it out of the way. Managed to get out from work and get the empty stock from Crewe back to Liverpool and then the return working to Euston These are my sons photos for a change, mine, not surprisingly as I was standing next to him, are very similar ! Guest 838rapid
Its a bit of Irony i guess. DavidBelcher
Great photos. What the reason that the Class 57's are used and not the original units? Peter The 57s are VT's own locos, which I guess saved on the cost of hiring a 90 or similar AC loco from another operator. David

298
I'm surprised a DBS 90 couldn't be used- i'm guessing now but it's probably due to no fit ones being available, unless Virgin wanted a train completely in their livery (in which case the Pretendolino could be used on a West Mids diagram, freeing up an AM90 for the day). The ECS run to Crewe is probably due to no drivers available who sign 57/3's and Edge Hill- the same happened with the Pretendolino on a Footex a few months ago.
